Anyone can start playing it from a very young age, around 7/8 and for the rest of their lives. Some of our members are very experienced. All you need is a racket- in the regiong of 60 - 70 pounds for a good one and thats it. All thats left is the annual subscription fee. |
Two or four people hit a ball across a table over a net - sounds simple? It is! But from then on it carrys on and there are endless opppurtunities for improvements. |
The old system was based on three sets upto twenty one each with five serves each player. The new system is five sets upto eleven with two serves each player. This change has been introduced with the aim of makng the game more exciting as each point is now more vital and players should in theory play a better game. The ball has also been enlarged from 38mm to 40mm in diameter to slow the game down so that spectators can see the ball more clearly. |
League matches are played between two teams of three players with each team player playing the other players of the team. They are played every Monday and Thursday evenings here. Refer to our fixture list for specific details for each team. |
The top players of each league eventually progress to an inter-league championship. The top players from these are selcted for the county team. The best county players are selected for the national team and also play in international competions. For example, I progress from the West Middlesex league to the inter league of all Middlesex leagues. The best players are chosen for the Middlesex county teams to play other counties. If lucky, I might be selected for the England team.. |
